Pride & community
A community Pride march in Dehradun celebrating LGBTQ+ visibility, dignity, solidarity and inclusion.
Dehradun Pride Parade is a public LGBTQ+ Pride march in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Participants walk through parts of the city carrying rainbow flags, banners and signs while gathering in support of LGBTQ+ visibility and equality.
The parade is a community-led public event rather than a religious festival. Its format can include a march, speeches, awareness activities and informal community gatherings, depending on the edition.
Visibility — The parade gives LGBTQ+ people an opportunity to be visible in a public setting and affirm their presence in the city.
Equality and dignity — Pride events provide space for conversations about equal rights, acceptance, safety and freedom from discrimination.
Community and solidarity — LGBTQ+ people, friends, families, activists and allies can come together in support of one another.
Dehradun hosted the first Pride parade in Uttarakhand in the late 2010s. The early march was organized by Prayojan Kalyan Samiti and brought LGBTQ+ participants into public streets with rainbow flags, banners and messages about legal rights and equality.
Subsequent editions involved community groups including Queer Collective Dehradun, with participation from people within the city and visitors from elsewhere. The parade has developed alongside wider LGBTQ+ organizing and public discussion in Uttarakhand.
